Car crashes into mall in Richmond Hill, sends 5 to hospital
Police are investigating after a car slammed into the side of a mall in Richmond Hill and injured at least five people Friday.
York Regional Police Const. Laura Nicolle said police received a number of calls about the crash at the Hillcrest Mall on Yonge Street north of 16th Avenue at around 10:30 a.m.
"It looks as though the driver of the truck was driving in the parking lot and experienced a medical emergency, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, and ultimately causing the vehicle to go through the store," said Nicolle.
Five people were injured. Three of them — including the driver — were transported to hospital by paramedics. The other two went to hospital on their own.
Nicolle said all injuries were minor and it is unclear what medical episode the man had before the accident.
