Carbonear pool celebrating 50 years as new attractions arrive

The new climbing wall at the Carbonear pool is proving to be a popular attraction.

At council’s June 26th meeting, councillor Peter Snow noted he had heard "rave reviews" about the new addition to the facility. He also asked for an update on the status of another piece of equipment planned for the pool – a zipline.

Councillor Malcolm Seymour, who chairs council’s recreation committee, admitted he had hoped the zipline would have arrived by now, but the Town is still waiting for it.

While they were on the subject of the pool, Seymour took the chance to extend his gratitude to everyone involved in the facility, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

"I know it's business as usual, but I'd like to put a big hand out there to the many councillors before me," said Seymour, "the many councillors that have shared things with this town."

Seymour thanked past members of the pool’s board and executive, chief administrative officers, and employees who have worked at the pool over the past five decades.

"To have such a thing to say that we can have the development of a pool in there that's 50 years old today," Seymour marvelled.

The councillor noted the anniversary was marked at the pool with an array of treats free to the public including cake, cookies, and muffins.

Seymour added his hope that future councillors and staff and others will contribute as much to the pool in the future as their predecessors have done.

"Hear, hear!" agreed Deputy Mayor Sam Slade as the other members of council applauded Seymour’s sentiment.
