Cartwright man pointed firearm during armed robbery, RCMP say

A Cartwright man pointed a gun at a gas station employee and demanded money during an armed robbery on Thursday evening, police say.

Police officers in Cartwright, a small community in southern Labrador, said they were called to Dewy's Gas Station shortly after 6 p.m. to a report of an armed robbery.

The employee reported that the armed robber asked the worker to step outside and proceeded to point a firearm and demanded money.

After taking cash, the man fled in a vehicle.

Police said no shots were fired and no one was injured.

RCMP said a 30-year-old man was located in the community a short while later.

He is expected to appear in provincial court in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Saturday on charges including armed robbery and pointing a firearm.

The owner of Dewy's Gas Station told CBC News the suspect used a shotgun, and that it was the first armed robbery at his store.

RCMP said the investigation is continuing.
