Catie Miller homicide leads to 2 more charges

Two more people face charges in connection to the death of Catie Miller, a 29-year-old Dartmouth woman who disappeared in July.

Kelly Amanda MacDonald, 33, of Lawrencetown, faces charges of first-degree murder and indecently interfering with a dead human body.

She appeared in Dartmouth provincial court Thursday morning and will remain in custody pending her next court appearance on Feb. 3.

Her lawyer, Pavel Boubnov, says MacDonald is a single mother with an eight-month-old child and no criminal history.

"She's pretty stressed as you understand, it's pretty serious allegations," he told reporters outside a Dartmouth courtroom following her appearance.

George Edward Hubley, 30, of Sheet Harbour Passage, faces charges of accessory to murder after the fact and indecently interfering with a dead human body. He also appeared in court Wednesday and remains in custody. He is due to return to court Feb. 3.

Both accused were arrested on Wednesday.

Jason James Johnson, 29, was charged earlier this week with first-degree murder and indecently interfering with human remains. Police say Johnson and Miller knew each other.

A source told CBC News that MacDonald and Johnson are a couple.

Police say MacDonald and Hubley know Johnson, but didn't know Miller.

Miller last made contact with her family on July 15 when she sent her mother a text message. Police say that was also the day she was killed.

John Miller, Catie's father, says the family had heard Catie talk about Johnson but they had never met him.

On Wednesday police found human remains while searching for Miller's body, but they have not confirmed it is her body.

"We anticipate that this process will take some time," said Const. Pierre Bourdages.

It is not known where the remains were found.

Police are still investigating scenes in Lawrencetown and Sheet Harbour Passage. They are no longer searching in Goffs.

Dozens of volunteers with the Halifax and Eastern Shore search and rescue teams are helping.
