Cavendish Beach organizers eye new events

The organizers of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival would like to get more use out of their concert site, and are considering staging more events.

The festival is scheduled for next weekend, with an extra concert added this year. Rod Stewart happened to be in the area and available the night before the country artists arrive, organizers say.

Jeff Squires told CBC News his company is looking use the concert site more than one weekend a year.

"It just depends on what's going on and who's out there touring and how you can make it happen," said Squires.

"The work still has to be done on what fits and when. We're in the process, that's what I'll say, and how it continues to unfold? That's an unknown."

The site has a new VIP area this year, a permanent structure that features a rooftop patio for hundreds more fans.

Squires is working with the Cavendish Resort municipality to look at presenting concerts outside of the high summer season.
