CBC P.E.I. names Louise Martin as new Compass host

Louise Martin, a Toronto journalist with family ties on P.E.I., will be the new host of CBC's supper hour news show on the Island.

Martin will take over as host this summer.

"Compass is the heartbeat of the Island, and I can't wait to be part of CBC P.E.I.'s strong news team," she said in a news release.

"I know the program is extremely important to Islanders and it's a privilege to be its next host."

Martin is excited to be closer to family in the Maritimes, with her brother and his family living in Nova Scotia and extended family on P.E.I.

From Scotland to Canada

Martin was most recently hosting and producing hourly and breaking news updates on the CBC News Network. Before that, she was host and producer covering business and economic news for CBC News Network.

Martin was born in Scotland, and she has anchored news shows across Canada. She started out at CKLQ Radio in Brandon, Man., before moving to RDTV in Red Deer, Alta, and then to Stockhouse.com in Toronto.

She also hosted CBC News at 6 with CBC in Windsor, Ont.

Martin comes to P.E.I. with her husband Ken and their children, Sophie and Hallie.

CBC also confirmed meteorologist Jay Scotland will replace Kevin "Boomer" Gallant.
