CBC News takes home 44 awards at 2017 RTDNA

CBC News journalists scooped up 44 awards on Saturday at the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) awards, honouring national and regional work in TV, web and radio.

"All these awards recognize our excellence on all platforms," said CBC News editor in chief Jennifer McGuire, noting the CBC took home the lion's share of the 75 awards.

"My sincere appreciation goes to everyone involved, to our finalists and to our winners. You do us proud."

Along with the accolades, the RTDNA also honoured CBC journalists past and present.

Terry Milewski, a longtime CBC news correspondent who retired in September 2016, was one of the two recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award — Charles Adler was the other.

On Friday, Stuart McLean was posthumously presented The President's Award, the RTDNA's highest honour for "an individual who has brought recognition and distinction to the field of electronic and digital journalism."

McLean, a longtime CBC Radio host, died at age 68 in February after a battle with melanoma.

Mark Mietkiewicz, who has been with the CBC for three decades, received the Distinguished Service Award for his work as Awards Chair of RTDNA Canada.
