A Centre County Sheetz will soon temporarily close while an updated store is built

A Bellefonte area Sheetz will be out of commission for several months while the store is demolished and rebuilt.

The location on 2850 Benner Pike will close on July 7 with the new store expected to reopen in December, Sheetz PR Manager Nick Ruffner wrote in an email Friday to the CDT. In the meantime, all store employees will be offered positions at other nearby Sheetz locations.

The 6,139-square-foot new store will be able to fuel 12 vehicles at a time. It will also include indoor and outdoor seating, a drive-thru and a new car wash.

“We look forward to serving our customers with this new, updated building,” Ruffner wrote.

Sheetz isn’t the only gas station chain making big plans for Benner Pike. Wawa submitted a land development plan proposal in March 2023 for the gas station chain’s first Centre County location. It would be located across from the Sheetz on Benner Pike.

No timeline was submitted for the plans, but a Wawa spokesperson previously told the CDT the company was looking for potential openings for 2025.

It would join Sheetz and the Benner Pike Rutter’s, which opened in early 2020.
