The Crown has withdrawn several charges against Terron Stevens, a Hay River man who was arrested in 2022 in connection with a shooting in the community.

The prosecutor said there is no longer a reasonable prospect of conviction because of issues related to the availability of witnesses.

Stevens, now 30, was charged in September 2022 after the shooting, which put Ryley Moore in hospital in critical condition. At the time, RCMP said they believed it to be a "targeted" shooting.

Stevens was scheduled to go on trial next week in Hay River on charges of aggravated assault, reckless discharge of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm. All those charges have been dropped.

He still faces a charge of violating the conditions of a release order.
