Charges upgraded in death of man found in Winnipeg dumpster

'Ringleader' in brutal killing of Winnipeg man jailed for at least 13 years

Police have upgraded the charges to first-degree murder for two people linked to the death of Garnet Walter Williams, who was found dead in a West End Winnipeg dumpster.

The body of the 43-year-old man was found in the garbage container in the 400 block of McGee Street on Aug. 10.

Later in the month, police announced charges of first-degree murder against Jeremy Lee Allen, 27, while two others — Miranda Nancy LeClaire, 32, and Lyle Barrow, 30 — were charged with manslaughter.

On Friday, police announced they had upgraded the charges against LeClaire and Barrow to first-degree murder.

A 25-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were also arrested earlier in the investigation and charged with the offence of indignity to a human body.

Investigators have determined Williams was assaulted on July 31 while with a small group of people at an apartment suite in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue.

He was assaulted by more than one person after an argument, confined in a suite for 10 days and died of his injuries, police said. His body was then put into the dumpster.
