Cheese has been recalled by a Miami area company after listeria contamination was found

The Doral company that distributes Paisa USA products recalled Queso de Mano Paisa after testing found listeria in one lot of the Venezuelan cheese.

If there’s good news, it’s in the limited distribution of recalled lot No. 2420104 with a best by date of May 16, 2024: Rancho Markets in Utah.

“The recall was initiated after one laboratory analysis came out suspicious of that lot sample being contaminated,” said the recall notice by Tama Corporation and posted by the FDA. “After a second analysis, this was confirmed.”

Anyone with the soft white cheese from the recalled lot should return it to the store for a full refund. Or, failing that, throw it deep into the garbage where pets can’t get to it.

Listeria hits about 1,600 people in the United States each year, according to the CDC, and kills about 260. Senior citizens and children under 5 are most likely to get the worst of listeria. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths. Most people deal with fever, headaches, muscle aches, loss of balance, confusion, possibly seizures.
