Chelsea Clinton on a Run for Office, Ivanka Trump, and What Hillary’s Up To

Chelsea Clinton joined CBS This Morning on Tuesday, where she fielded questions from co-host Gayle King regarding her political future, what her mother, Hillary, has been up to, and Ivanka Trump. Since Hillary Clinton’s defeat in the November election, there has been rampant speculation that Chelsea will one day run for office. The New York Daily News recently reported that she may run for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s seat in the U.S. Senate, should Gillibrand make a run for the White House in 2020. Clinton left room for a possible run in the future but said she has no plans to run for any public office, at least for now.

“I think there are a lot of ways to get involved. Clearly, running for public office is one of those,” Clinton said. She later added, “I clearly don’t agree with our president, but I’m definitely not the right person to defeat him in 2020. So right now the answer is no.”

Clinton also said she doesn’t expect her mother to run for public office again. Though the elder Clinton has stayed largely out of the public eye since the election, she remains busy.

“Right now she’s focused on her book. She’s focused, thankfully, on her grandchildren. She’s focused on what she can do to support work she’s been engaged in for longer than I’ve been alive: around children, around women, around families. And I’m just really grateful to have more time with her now than I’ve had in a long time,” Clinton said of her mother.

CBS This Morning had an interview scheduled later in the day with current first daughter and assistant to the president Ivanka Trump, scheduled to air on Wednesday. King asked if their was anything Clinton would like her to pass on to Trump.

“I hope her kids are doing well. I hope they’re enjoying their new home in Washington,” Clinton said.
