Chester water boil advisory reduced 1 week later

A water boil advisory that's been in place for Chester since last week has been reduced, but is still in effect for some homes and businesses.

On Feb. 3, Nova Scotia's environment department issued the advisory after bacteria was found through routine testing of a dug well on Pleasant Street.

The department said Wednesday the advisory remains in place between the intersections of King Street and Pleasant Street to Water Lane and the bottom of South Street to the shore.

A break in a privately-owned sewage line led to bacteria in the well, which is now repaired, the department said.

Water should be boiled for at least a minute before consumption.
