Is Chicago Fire New This Week?
Chicago Fire is once again burning hot.
Season 13 is averaging 7.7 million total viewers (including delayed playback, through the first seven episodes), down just 10% from the strikes-shortened and -delayed Season 12. It stands as broadcast TV’s No. 6 drama in total audience, trailing Tracker, Matlock, FBI, NCIS and Elsbeth, and just barely outdrawing lead-in Chicago Med. Chicago Fire’s 0.6 demo rating ranks fourth among all broadcast dramas airing this fall.

Why are there no new episodes of Chicago Fire?
As is customary, the NBC drama is taking a hiatus for the holidays, but will be back in the new year to resume Season 13. The network’s midseason schedule reveals that Chicago Fire — along with the rest of the #OneChicago trifecta — will return with new episodes on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.
What has happened in Season 13 so far?
Fire returned on Sept. 25 for what showrunner Andrea Newman has dubbed its “haunted” 13th season with family ghosts plaguing several characters. Stella told Severide that she’s doesn’t feel ready yet to have a child, and her husband was understanding. Meanwhile, Severide’s half-brother Damon made things complicated for the couple when he disobeyed Stella’s orders on a rescue call, then went behind her back to Severide for protection. After Severide declared that they could not work together, Damon transferred to another firehouse.
New chief Dom Pascal gave Stella a tough time about the turnover on her truck until the lieutenant came up with a solution, by way of Herrmann: Ritter moved to Truck 81, while Kylie joined Engine.
On the relationship front, Carver returned from visiting his family in Texas with a cloud over his head and a bad-news girlfriend, Tori, from back home. The couple eventually split, but it may be too late for Carver and ex Violet, who began dating someone new.
In the fall finale, Cruz was ominously visited by Flaco’s cousin, who had been released from prison; a suicide call brought up family memories and heavy emotions for Novak; Ritter declared that he wasn’t ready to move in with his cop boyfriend; and Herrmann and Mouch took the captain and lieutenant tests, respectively.
Which new characters have been introduced so far in Season 13?
Dermot Mulroney joined the ensemble in the series-regular role of Firehouse 51’s new chief, Dom Pascal. A Chicago Fire Department vet, the character spent the past 10 years working in Miami. Upon arriving back in the Windy City, Pascal reunited with his estranged wife, Monica (KaDee Strickland), and the two resumed their tumultuous relationship. As chief, Pascal has run into danger and hasn’t been afraid to get his hands dirty, a stark contrast to ethical Boden.
While not new to the show, Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) and Jocelyn Hudon (Lyla “Lizzie” Novak) were promoted to series regulars for Season 13.
