Christy's weather: blizzard warnings in Kitikmeot, Kivalliq

Nunavut outlook

It will be a relatively stormy weekend in the Kivalliq and Kitikmeot, with winds gusting to 70 km/h and blizzard conditions in Baker Lake, Rankin, Chesterfield, Arviat and Gjoa Haven today. Blizzard conditions will remain in those communities until tomorrow afternoon.

Temperatures in the Kitikmeot will also be slightly cooler, with temperature near -30 C in most communities.

Baffin Island will see more clear and cold weather, with temperatures around 5 C below seasonal. The sunny weather will continue as we move into March, after a very dry January and February in Iqaluit. Slightly milder weather will move into Iqaluit next week, with highs closer to -20 C.

N.W.T. outlook

It will also be a stormy weekend through the North of the N.W.T. with blizzard conditions expected tomorrow in Tuktoyaktuk, Paulatuk, Colville Lake, and Inuvik.

Winds will strengthen tonight, gusting to 70 km/h or more in the area. Windy weather will continue through the day tomorrow, keeping blizzard conditions in the region until Monday.

Further south, windy weather is expected through most communities tonight and Sunday, with a very strong low pressure system to the north.

Sunny weather is expected for most communities today, with mild temperatures in the minus single digits (slightly cooler in Yellowknife, with temperatures dropping to the minus teens).

Yukon outlook

After another cooler start to the day today, temperatures look to warm up to the minus single digits throughout the territory this afternoon. Clear skies will remain in the south for the weekend, with snowfall and windy weather further north.

A cool down is expected in Old Crow by Sunday, with temperatures dropping to the minus teens.
