Close call for tow truck driver has Alberta company asking drivers to slow down

The owner of an Alberta towing company is warning drivers to slow down when they see flashing lights.

Kraig Kohls, who owns Auto Spa Towing in Medicine Hat, Alta., says one of his drivers was struck in the hand by a vehicle that didn't slow down or move into another lane in an incident earlier this week.

"Two, three inches further over and it could have seriously hurt the driver or possibly killed him," he said.

RCMP says no charges will be laid in the incident.

Kohls said the close call has left his driver shaken up.

"It's more an emotional thing, right now. He did not sleep at all last night from the stress, and we've given him a few days off just to try to recover," he said.

The towing industry has repeatedly asked the provincial government to permit blue and white flashing lights on working tow trucks.

The province says the measure is still under consideration.
