The move starts on March 23.
It’s not a huge surprise that Warner Bros. Discovery is using properties from one of its linear networks to bolster that of a sibling station; CNN previously aired Overtime sections of Maher’s show on its network, although that ends with this move.
The show itself was renewed by HBO for two seasons last week, taking it through to 2026.
“The addition of Real Time With Bill Maher to CNN’s weekend primetime lineup marks the start of a commitment and investment into topical entertainment programming that we’re bringing to the weekends,” said Amy Entelis, EVP, Talent, CNN Originals and Creative Development for CNN Worldwide. “We’ve seen that audiences enjoy Bill’s perspective and approach to news and information, and we’re looking forward to the show now being on CNN.”
