Cold Lake High School class of 2024 celebrates graduation

Principal Dustin Walker delivered an inspiring speech that resonated deeply with the graduates and their families. "This time of year, even though it's busy with exams and graduation and planning for next year, it also makes me thoughtful enough to reflect on this chapter of these kids' lives," Walker began.

Walker encouraged the graduates to dream of their next connections and highlighted the talent and leadership skills displayed by Cold Lake High School students over the past four years. "I have personally seen great examples of determination, integrity, talent, and brilliance from students in this school. Our great athletes, volunteers, builders, teachers, speakers, actors, musicians, and academics. This group includes our future wellness doctors, teachers, electricians, lawyers, cooks, and nurses."

Reflecting on their journey, Walker noted, "Time goes quickly. What is most important to me as a principal is that this group of young people have proven to us that they can be good people, good friends, and good leaders. These kids are resilient, they're talented, they care about each other, and they care about the people around them. They've worked hard to finish school and are all doing just fine."

In closing, Walker urged the graduates to remember the values of integrity, commitment, and pride. "Be a role model by doing what's right, sticking to your commitments, and taking pride in your accomplishments."

Valedictorian Amelia Gurski also addressed her peers with a heartfelt speech. "We laughed together, cried together, and pushed each other to be our best selves. But despite the challenges, we made it to this moment. And I'm not just talking about crossing the stage. We made it through the crisis, and that's in small feet. It attaches to our resiliency, and the unwavering support of our loved ones."

Gurski reminded the graduates of the values that have guided them: integrity, commitment, and pride. "These values have been the hallmarks of our experience, and they will serve us well as we move forward in life. While we go our separate ways, I encourage you all to continue to live these principles."

She concluded by thanking the families. "Despite graduating, we're still the same kids who needed your help. Thank you for always being there for us."
