Collisions kill 2 on Manitoba highways Sunday

Boy, 3, dies after being run over in northern Alberta parking lot

Two men are dead after separate crashes on Manitoba highways on Sunday.

A pickup truck drove off the road and hit a telephone pole on Highway 7, north Teulon, Man., between Road 105 and Road 106, around 12:45 p.m.

The 81-year-old man from the rural municipality of Armstrong who was driving the truck was taken to hospital in serious condition and later died.

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.

A short time later a van was travelling south on Highway 16, between Gladstone and Highway 1, when the driver tried to pass another vehicle on the two-lane highway.

The van collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck.

The 23-year-old man who was driving the van died at the scene. The driver of the semi was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

RCMP said speed is considered a factor.
