Colorescience's Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy Is the Undereye-Brightening Filter I Need on Zoom

There isn't a single friend I've spoken to (not in person, of course) who hasn't expressed some grief-like feelings over plans that have been canceled or postponed due to the measures we must take to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and lessen the number of people who get COVID-19. And that's nothing to feel guilty about — you can feel an unwavering and passionate responsibility to stay home while simultaneously resenting the inconveniences that come with it. (But it's also normal and understandable to feel guilty, just FYI.)

Take me, for example. I'll be damned if I don't do everything in my power to not endanger folks like my elderly dad, a survivor of multiple cancers who's on oxygen and at significantly higher risk for a horrible outcome if he were to contract COVID-19. But I'm also sad that the play I've been rehearsing has been put on hold indefinitely. It's OK to feel both things.

Thanks to Zoom, even though Lake Worth Playhouse's production of Annie has been postponed (I'm Miss Hannigan — can you believe it?), we're still rehearsing remotely. Just like with a work video conference, all the cast members log on and read through our lines and sing our songs so we can be prepared for when the show can finally go on (it must, after all). And just like with a work video conference call, I initially felt motivated to do a full face of makeup. But once I discovered the "Touch Up My Appearance" filter, which softly blurs skin, suddenly foundation and concealer didn't feel so crucial anymore.

However, there was one thing about my complexion that Touch Up My Appearance couldn't convincingly "touch up": my dark circles. Sure, the area looked smoother than it did without TUMY (I don't know if anyone really calls it that, but I'm going to), but I still looked very grayish in the digital reflection looking back at me. Having almost fully embraced complexion-makeup laziness, I didn't want to start wearing under-eye concealer — especially not on otherwise bare skin (I find that never believably blends on me), so I turned to an eye cream that has what I consider to be nothing less than magical powers.

I'd recently run out of my beloved Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35 and was hoping to hold off on starting the new one I'd just received because, at $69, it didn't exactly feel like a casual choice for a beauty routine whose results aren't really seeing the light of day much right now. But just like it has never let me down on those public no-makeup days I miss so much, this multitasker came through for me on Zoom.

See, Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35 is so much more than an eye cream — perhaps you picked up on that from the "3-in-1" in the name. In addition to ingredients you'd damn well expect to find in a not-cheap eye cream (like peptides, hyaluronic acid, and algae), it also contains damage-preventing sun filters. (Yes, you still need sunscreen when you're inside. We've been over this.) But what really makes this my favorite eye cream in recent memory is the fact that it has a peachy tint that counterbalances the unwanted tones of my dark circles.

In this photo, I'm wearing Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35 under just my left eye. Asymmetrical dark circles are very in right now.

The tint is nowhere near as opaque as you would expect a concealer to be, but it doesn't have to be. By being as sheer as it is, it blends outrageously well into un-made-up skin, but that peachiness is just enough to offset bluish-grayness and trick the eye — especially Zoom's.

The original Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35 worked well on all skin tones, but the brand has now launched Fair, Tan, and Deep versions, designating the one I'm inevitably going to blow through in a few weeks as Medium. And when those few weeks pass and we can hopefully, cautiously return to a less indoorsy lifestyle, you can be sure I'm picking up another one to wear to in-person rehearsals.
