Coronation Street hints at new family members for Brian Packham

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street is set to air a pleasant discovery for Brian Packham. The character played by Peter Gunn will find out more about his roots in upcoming scenes of the ITV soap.

Brian is to take a DNA test which will inform him that he is of Italian descent. Though the headteacher is only 8% Italian, he is determined to find out more about his extended family.

Despite friend Mary objecting that the percentage is definitely too low to justify him going on a mission to find his long-lost Italian relatives, Brian is undeterred.

He joins a number of family tree websites in the hope of tracing some new family members and perhaps getting to meet them. Will his quest be successful? Or will he face potential danger in the form of scammers?

Meanwhile, actor Gunn has recently spoken about Brian finding love again after his partner Cathy Matthews left the cobbles last year, and he already has someone in mind - long time friend Mary Taylor (played by Patti Clare).

"I'd love it! They are both quite surreal and off-the-wall and work together very well. They could be a very strong pairing, and I love working with Patti," Gunn told Inside Soap.

"Characters like Brian and Mary provide light relief alongside the hard-hitting storylines; not to say that's frivolous or meaningless, but it gives the balance of light and shade that Corrie does so well."

Will the quirky characters finally find happiness together?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
