Cougar helicopter grounded at Hibernia after engine-trouble alert

A Cougar helicopter that was bringing personnel to the Hibernia offshore oil platform was shut down this week after instruments indicated a problem with the engines.

The engine fuel bypass indicators were activated on both of the engines of Cougar 232 as it was en route to the Hibernia Gravity Based Structure (GBS) Tuesday.

Once it landed safely on the platform, all passengers managed to get off without incident while the crew waited for the arrival of the maintenance team.

Aircraft engineers worked with the manufacturer of the chopper's engine to inspect the helicopter.

Once it was cleared of any issues it was flight tested and certified serviceable Wednesday morning.

Cougar crews then flew the aircraft back to St. John's without any further incident.
