Council Approves Surface Treatment Tender Amid Oversight Commitments

SOUTHWEST MIDDLESEX - Council approved a surface treatment tender during their council meeting on May 8, selecting Miller Paving Limited for the project amid promises of increased oversight. This decision follows a bidding process where Miller Paving emerged as the lowest bidder with a proposal of $150,970, excluding HST.

Mauro Castrilli, Manager of Public Works, presented the tender results to council, explaining that three bids were received, all in compliance with the municipal procurement policy. The roads slated for treatment include segments of Trillium Drive, Pratt Siding from Concession Drive to Centreville Drive, and Pratt Siding from Longwoods Road to Trillium Drive. Specifically, 1.4 kilometers of already hard-surfaced road will be treated under this initiative, aimed at preserving the existing pavement infrastructure.

During the council discussion, Castrilli acknowledged past concerns with Miller Paving related to previous projects but assured council of the company’s commitment to regain the township's confidence. He emphasized that township staff would maintain a significant presence on-site to oversee the project's execution, ensuring adherence to standards and addressing any issues promptly.

The discussion also touched on the geographical specifics of the project, clarifying the sections of roads involved and confirming that only the parts of the road already hard surfaced would be treated. This detail was important for council members, ensuring that their understanding of the project's scope matched the public works department's plans.

Deputy Mayor Mike Sholdice expressed appreciation for the proactive measures planned for project oversight and moved to approve the recommendation. The motion was seconded by Councillor Haggith, and council unanimously approved the tender award to Miller Paving.
