Armored vehicles rammed the doors of Bolivia’s government palace Wednesday in an apparent coup attempt against President Luis Arce, but he vowed to stand firm and named a new army commander who ordered troops to stand down.

Arce's socialist party is split between backing him and his former mentor-turned-political-rival, ex-President Evo Morales.Zuniga had recently said that Morales should not be able to run again for president and had threatened to block him if he attempted to do so.
