Crash kills two on Interstate 435, traffic backed up for hours, police say

Traffic on a part of Interstate 435 was closed for roughly four hours Easter Sunday after a deadly two-vehicle crash.

Emergency personnel responded at 11:05 a.m. on northbound I-435 and state Highway 210.

A white Ford Fusion traveling north in the third lane was rear ended by a box truck, according to a news release from Kansas City police. The Ford may have been slowing down or stopped when the accident took place, police said.

The driver and back seat passenger of the car both died at the scene and the front seat passenger was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the box truck was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This marks Kansas City’s 28th and 29th vehicle fatalities this year.
