6 young men injured in crash in Toronto, 2 in life-threatening condition
Six young men were taken to hospital, two in life-threatening condition, after a passenger van went off the roadway and crashed into a tree early Saturday, police say.
Acting Staff Sgt. Michael Mersereau, spokesperson for Toronto Police Service's traffic services, said police received a call about the crash at Rockcliffe Boulevard and Woolner Avenue, near Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue West, at 12:53 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found the van on its side, he said. There were seven young men in the vehicle at the time it crashed.
Police seek witnesses to single vehicle crash
One man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while three others suffered minor injuries. One man was uninjured.
The males range in age from 16 to 21 years, police said.
"We are looking for witnesses, obviously," Mersereau said.
Police could not confirm if speed or alcohol were factors in the single vehicle crash. "That portion is still being investigated," he said.
The families of the victims have been notified.
Jamie Rodgers, deputy commander for Toronto Paramedic Services, said three patients went to a trauma centre, while the others were taken to local hospitals.
The intersection of Rockcliffe Boulevard and Woolner Avenue, which was closed, has been reopened.
