The social satire debuted on Hulu in August 2021, making it the streamer’s most-watched original series premiere in history. Created by David E. Kelley, Nine Perfect Strangers is based on the best-selling book by Big Little Lies and Apples Never Fall author Liane Moriarty. The TV adaptation, which originated as a mini-series, starred Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Shannon, Regina Hall, Luke Evans, Samara Weaving, and Grace Van Patten. The show was officially renewed for a second season in June 2023.
Similarly to season one, the second installment will feature a brand-new cast in a brand-new location. While there’s still no release date, Deadline previously confirmed that season two will be filmed in the Swiss Alps. Nicole Kidman, who currently stars in Amazon Prime Video’s Expats, will return as executive producer and will be reprising her role as wellness guru Masha.
Along with Kidman, Emmy-winner Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) is set to appear as Brian in season two, along with Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) as Imogen, Christine Baranski as Victoria, Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness) as Agnes, and Maisie Richarson-Sellers as Wolfie. Among the other new arrivals are King Princess, who will portray Tina, Turkish actor Aras Aydin who will play Matteo, and Lucas Englander as Martin.
The plot for season one followed troubled guests as they checked into Tranquillium House, a bougie health retreat set in the fictional town of Cabrillo, California. According to Deadline, season two will follow “the general formula of the first installment [with] nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living with a 10-day stay at a boutique wellness resort run by the resort’s director Masha. However, these nine ‘perfect’ strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.”
If we had to guess, it’s probably more hallucinogenic smoothies.
