Building a total loss after 2nd fire in Selkirk Avenue house
A building near the intersection of Salter Street and Selkirk Avenue in Winnipeg went up in flames early Sunday morning.
It was the second fire at the vacant building and fire officials say the building is considered a total loss.
Crews were called to a home in the 300 block of Selkirk Ave. at 6:40 a.m. after reports of a fire.
Plumes of smoke from the two-storey home spilled out from a charred hole in the roof as firefighters doused the blaze.
Firefighters searched the first floor, encountered structural damage from the previous blaze and left to fight the flames from outside.
An ambulance, police cruiser and close to a dozen other fire emergency vehicles were on the scene. Police taped off Selkirk from Salter east to Aikins Street.
Using an aerial ladder truck, firefighters doused the house and subdued most of the flames.
The second fire made the damage from the previous blaze worse and the house could not be saved.
