Montreal police say a 31-year-old cyclist died in hospital after being hit by a truck at the intersection of Mount Royal and Parc avenues on Monday.

The driver allegedly fled the scene after the collision, which took place in the middle of the intersection located in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.

On Tuesday, police said the 25-year-old motorist will be charged. He is expected to appear in Quebec court in the afternoon.

Numerous 911 calls came in at around 3:30 p.m. to report the incident and the fleeing truck, according to Montreal police spokesperson Const. Manuel Couture.

The suspect was later found and arrested in Outremont, he said.

This was the third cyclist to have died on the island of Montreal this year. Couture.said, as of Sept. 4, there were a total of 19 deaths caused by collisions on the island.
