Cyclist hospitalized after hitting Home Depot truck while holding beer: KC police
A bicyclist was hospitalized after colliding with a Home Depot truck in Kansas City, police said.
Just before 3:30 p.m. Friday, a bicyclist on a blue Western Flyer 10-speed bicycle was headed south on Chestnut Avenue, which is a northbound one-way, according to an initial crash report released Saturday by the Kansas City Police Department.
The cyclist — who was not wearing a helmet — was steering with one hand and holding a Natural Light beer in the other when he failed to stop before entering the intersection of East 39th Street, police said. As he rolled into the intersection, the bicycle ran into the side of a Ford F250 truck that was driving down East 39th Street.
The man was thrown from the bicycle upon impact and taken to the hospital with critical injuries, according to the report.
The driver and passenger inside the truck, which had a Home Depot logo on its side, were not injured, police said.
