Dakota Johnson and Jeremy Allen White’s Years-Long Friendship, Explained

For some reason, it always comes as a shock to learn that two seemingly random celebrities are friends with each other, as if Hollywood is not known for being a pretty small community. The latest platonic celebrity pairing to surprise fans is Dakota Johnson and Jeremy Allen White: the best talk show interviewee of all time and the internet’s obsession anytime The Bear drops a new season (which literally happened today, June 27).

But these two aren’t just casual acquaintances who enjoy a beach day together here and there; Johnson is literally the godmother of White’s daughters, Ezer Billie and Dolores Wild. So, how are these two actors connected aside from their shared interests in acting and being hot? Johnson is “best friends” with Allen’s ex-wife Addison Timlin, who has been sharing photos of Johnson on Instagram since 2016 (though their friendship likely dates back even further).

The actors are longtime pals, actually.

“Happy birthday to my bright and shiny and to Ezer and Dolly’s godmother,” Timlin wrote in a gushing tribute to Johnson in 2021. “We love you so much, thanks for being born and raising kids with me it’s the best.”

Clearly, White and Johnson have maintained their friendship despite his split from Timlin in May 2023 after nearly four years of marriage. Despite their relatively short years as husband and wife, the pair first met when they were just 14 years old in 2006. White is currently said to be linked to Spanish superstar Rosalía.

May 12, 2024: Timlin posts a personal, emotional post about motherhood in honor of Mother’s Day, to which White comments, “Super mom ❤️.”

October 23, 2023: Johnson is photographed traipsing around LA in a pair of mesh sandals, which she reportedly wore to attend Ezer Billie’s fifth birthday party. According to reports, Johnson gifted the little girl a “mini pink SUV as a gift which made everyone laugh during the festive day of fun!”

October 21, 2023: DeuxMoi reports that White and Rosalía were spotted together at Los Feliz Theater. Us Weekly confirms the relationship a month later. “Rosalía and Jeremy Allen White have recently started dating,” a source says in November. “They started out as just friends, but things have turned romantic recently.”

August 5, 2023: White is photographed making out in the open with model Ashley Moore, seemingly putting reconciliation rumors to rest.

July 29, 2023: The exes are photographed embracing at their eldest daughter’s soccer game. In multiple photos, White can be seen kissing Timlin on the head and cheek, sparking reconciliation rumors.

May 14, 2023: Timlin refers to herself as a “single mom” in the caption of a Mother’s Day Instagram post, which was later edited to “coparent,” per Us Weekly: “Being a single mom is not how I pictured it. It is so fucking hard. It is all out covered in shit crying on the floor kick you in the shins screaming with no sound coming out hard. It’s not the natural order of things. It can be exhausting but more than anything it can just be so lonely. When something magical happens and you have to tell yourself ‘don’t forget this’ because there’s no witness by your side.”

October 4, 2022: White’s then-wife Addison Timlin shares a tribute to her “best friend,” Dakota Johnson. “Happy birthday to my best friend in the whole world,” she wrote. “We feel each other like the weather and I’m so deeply grateful for it. I love you for the rest of time.”

October 4, 2021: Timlin reveals Johnson is also Dolly’s godmother. “Happy birthday to my bright and shiny and to Ezer and Dolly’s godmother," Timlin wrote in a tribute to Johnson. “Here you are looking the most godmotherly of them all. We love you so much, thanks for being born and raising kids with me it’s the best.”

August 9, 2016: Johnson appears on Timlin’s Instagram for the first of many times in 2016. In the photo, the duo and a third friend stand in front of a bar in matching denim jackets. “It’s not what’s wrong with leather, it’s what right with denim,” Timlin writes in the caption.

February 2013: Timlin confirms she’s in a relationship with someone she’s been friends with “for a long period of time” before it “took a hard right turn into romance.”

2006–2008: White and Timlin meet sometime around 2006, when the pair are both 14 years old, likely while filming the 2008 film Afterschool. “When we were 14 years old and I saw you perform for the first time in drama class, I couldn’t take my eyes off of you,” Timlin will later write in an Instagram tribute to White in January 2023, when he won his Golden Globe for best actor in a television musical or comedy series. “When we’d run your lines for Shameless, I’d be so tickled knowing beforehand what everyone would get to witness the next day on set. When I watched the pilot for The Bear, I cried my fucking heart out. I think somewhere I must’ve known how much life was about to change, but mostly I just knew that the world was about to discover what I’ve known all along.”
