Decomposed Body of Man Missing Since May Found Floating in Water at Abandoned U.S. Steel Property

The decomposed body of a man missing since April has been found floating in water at an abandoned U.S. Steel pump house in Illinois, according to authorities.

The Will County Coroner's Office identified the victim in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 3, as 44-year-old Warren Baker.

Three men and a woman who were exploring the deserted property in Joliet found Baker's body floating four to five feet of water around 6:47 p.m. local time, Patch and Fox affiliate WFLD.

Joliet police entered a pump house that had flooded with water, Patch reported. Baker's body was then found in an "advanced stage of decomposition," police told the outlets.

A U.S. Steel representative told CBS affiliate WBBM-TV that the site is an old property and had been closed for a period of time.

Baker was reported missing to police on May 13 after his family last saw him on April 28, per WFLD.

The Joliet Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

"The Joliet Police are investigating the incident," according to the coroner's office. "Final cause and manner will be determined following Autopsy, Police and Toxicological reports."
