Two Female Delhi Police Officers Show Grit And Gumption To Nab Serial Gangster

It was an important mission for Delhi Police to nab serial gangster Kala Jathedi and his partner Anuradha Chaudhary. The team continued the chase for over 24 hours, and finally emerged victorious. As the couple stopped at a pit stop at the Saharanpur - Yamunanagar Highway, the team swung into action and arrested them. This wouldn’t have been possible without Sub-inspector Preeti Sangwan, who quickly held Chaudhary from behind, before arresting her.

The large team that has made huge strides by cracking the biggest arrest of the year has two women, Sangwan and Neetu Sindhu. Both of them represent the Special Cell’s Counter Intelligence Unit.

Exploring the unexplored path

Sangwan belongs to a humble family in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri — her mother is a housewife, while her father works as a farmer. In her early days, she was exposed to an environment that discouraged women to step out. But her indomitable spirit pushed her to achieve her dreams, right from the start. Not only did she complete her higher education in Computer Applications, but she would also travel a long distance with a ‘male friend’, which led to several wagging tongues.

She joined the Delhi Police in 2018, and became a part of the Special Cell in 2020. Sangwan shared with the media that she has learnt various kinds of technologies, and the best way to use them in digital investigation. Furthermore, she added that this work gives her an “adrenaline rush.”

On the other hand, Sindhu is a 2014-batch officer and has been with the Special Cell since 2020. She has been pursuing her Post Graduate Diploma in Electronics & IT, and assisted the team by way of her technical expertise. She has been an integral part of this operation, and answered the ‘call of duty’, leaving behind her three-year-old daughter at home.

The big operation

The operation, known as D-24, has been a massive success, but the two women along with others in the team were on the field for more than 10 days. They had been working on the case for over a year. After analysing the data, they zeroed in on a car, in which Jathedi was likely to be present on July 20. Sangwan followed the vehicle on Mathura-Gwalior road, and continued till 1.30 next day, until they reached Faridabad, only to find that the targets were not in the vehicle.

The next day, they set out to find two vehicles in Uttarakhand, where the target could possibly be. Sangwan and her team left immediately. After being on the chase for three years, they zeroed in on an apartment complex in a district in Uttarakhand.

In order to crack the mission, Sangwan was asked to act like a local and enter the apartment complex. Finally, after much hunting, a suspect car was found. The next few hours were spent walking in the rain and waiting for the car’s occupants to come out. They then spotted a man in a turban and a woman.

The next day, Sangwan and her team managed to figure out the tower in which the target could be residing. On July 29, the couple left the apartment at an unexpected time, and didn’t get back until late night. Midway, the target had managed to exchange cars with a dummy couple, and fled in an SUV. Even after much plotting, their plans were cut short on July 30, when the duo was finally arrested.
