Demand high at P.E.I.'s Upstreet Craft brewing
P.E.I.'s third craft brewery opened on Friday afternoon, and demand is so high there is likely to be a shortage in the early going.
"Things are getting really low. We definitely sold a lot more than we expected in the first three days," said Joey Seaman, co-owner of Upstreet Brewing.
"I've got lots of e-mails this morning saying we need a lot more beer for Canada day weekend, and we'll do our best to get them all, but safe to say we're not going to be able to service everyone."
Upstreet serves the beer on tap and in growlers at its brewery on Allen Street in Charlottetown, and at a number of bars in Charlottetown. The new company joins the P.E.I. Brewing Company and Barnone on the Island's craft beer scene.
Seaman said Upstreet will be able to catch up with demand, but it will take a little time.
"Craft beer has just exploded you know, and people are really excited about another local brewery," he said.
"I think this is a trend that's just going to continue."
Seaman said he expects to see more P.E.I. restaurants and bars converting from domestic to craft beer in the future.
