Dennis Quaid movie searches for 2,000 paid extras in Winnipeg

Dennis Quaid movie in Winnipeg needs black extras

A new Dennis Quaid movie is looking for thousands of paid extras to appear in the film over the next few months.

A Dog's Purpose is based on a New York Times bestseller and will be shooting in Winnipeg from August through October.

The casting company is looking for Winnipeggers of all ages, male or female, with no experience necessary.

In a release, casting agency Kari Casting said it is looking for a variety of "wholesome, friendly looking people both male and female of all ages and ethnic backgrounds to play as regular town folk."

It is also looking for real police officers, fire fighters, teenage football players, coaches and clowns.

A Dog's Purpose takes place over several decades from the late 1960s to 1990s.

Anyone interested in appearing in the film is asked to attend a one-day casting call at the Fairmont Winnipeg on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Application forms will be available in person or downloadable from the Kari Casting website.

"We haven't worked on a production where we've been required to have this many extras in a while," said Leah Erum, with the casting agency. "There's quite a few scenes outside. The big chunk of it will be sort of a stadium scene – the football."

Dennis Quaid was last in Winnipeg filming The Horseman in the winter of 2008.

He remarked he had never been in the kind of cold he experienced in Winnipeg during the shooting of that film.
