The beloved show Derry Girls is saying its final goodbyes this fall.

Following Irish teenagers Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla (Louisa Harland), Clare (Nicola Coughlan), and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O'Donnell), along with Michelle's English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn), as they navigate coming of age at the end of the Troubles, the show has been a critical hit since its premiere in 2018.

They all attend a Catholic girls' secondary school (including James), and the plot is lighthearted but does not ignore the weight of the history unfolding around them. The final episode of the show is a special set in 1998 during the signing of the Good Friday Agreement—the peace treaty that ended most of the violence of the Troubles.

"You get messages from people in Pakistan, people in Kuwait, people all over the world saying, 'This reminded me of how I grew up,'" Coughlan told Town & Country of the show's universal appeal. "Nothing, not even an international violent conflict, can stop hormones from raging." (Coughlan's performance in Derry Girls helped her land the role of Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton.)

There has consistently been a delay from when the show aired in the United Kingdom to when it has been on Netflix worldwide, and Netflix has finally shared a premiere date for Derry Girls season three.

How to watch Derry Girls:

The first two seasons of Derry Girls are currently available to stream on Netflix worldwide. The third and final season will be released on October 7, 2022. "It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series," Derry Girls creator and writer Lisa McGee shared last year.
