Detroit River Canadian Cleanup hosts 13th annual Detroit River Evening

The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup (DRCC) invites the community to its 13th Annual Detroit River Evening, celebrating significant restoration milestones for the Detroit River. The event will be held on June 19, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Ojibway Nature Centre (5200 Matchette Rd, Windsor, ON N9C 4E8) and virtually via Microsoft Teams.

The Detroit River Evening is not just a gathering, but a platform for the community to actively participate in the restoration of the Detroit River. This free public event is designed to showcase our coordinated efforts to improve the Detroit River and remove it from the Great Lakes Areas of Concern list. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about current research and restoration projects, and contribute their ideas to protect, restore, and enhance the Detroit River ecosystem.

Our lineup of presenters is a testament to the caliber of the 13th Annual Detroit River Evening. We are honored to have Claire Sanders, a renowned Partnership and Communications Officer with Parks Canada, discussing the proposed National Urban Park in Windsor. Lindsay Bennett, a seasoned Manager of Environmental for Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, and Katie Bosco, an experienced Manager of Outreach and Engagement at Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, will present the sustainable design features of the Gordie Howe International Bridge and the environmental considerations and mitigation measures implemented across the project sites. We will also release the DRCC's annual report for [2023-2024].

"The Detroit River Evening offers an opportunity for anyone interested in the environmental health of the river to come out and learn about all the work being done by our partners," said Jackie Serran, Detroit River Canadian Cleanup Remedial Action Plan Coordinator. "There has been a lot of progress towards improving the health of the Detroit River and we are looking forward to updating everyone on our work."

The event is open to all, but space is limited, and registration is required.
