Dog stuck high up in sand wall rescued from west Quebec quarry

Firefighters from Gatineau and Val-des-Monts, Que., rescued a dog that somehow became stuck in a wall of sand at a quarry as the temperature sat at 34 C, or more like 40 C factoring in the humidex.

MRC des Collines police said a worker found the dog at the DJL Quarry located on Chemin St-Antoine in Val-des-Monts on Wednesday afternoon.

The dog had dug a space in the sand wall and took refuge, making it difficult to rescue, police said.

Area firefighters could not reach the dog because their ladder was not tall enough, so they called in Gatineau firefighters to help.

The larger ladder was high enough to reach the dog, which showed signs of dehydration.

The Outaouais SPCA has now taken over care of the canine because there was no tag to trace it back to its owners.
