Dolphins agree to terms with free agent WR Chosen Anderson

The Dolphins have agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver Chosen Anderson, a league source told the Miami Herald on Saturday night, bringing more speed to their offense.

According to ESPN, the contract is a one-year deal.

The 29-year-old Anderson, who legally changed his first name from Robbie, spent the past season with the Panthers and Cardinals, landing in Arizona after a midseason trade. In 14 games and seven starts, he recorded a career-low 20 catches for 282 yards and one touchdown. The Cardinals released Anderson on March 8.

In a video posted to his Instagram Saturday night, Anderson unwrapped a Tua Tagovailoa jersey and wrote “I’m Comin Home @miamidolphins.”

Anderson, 6-3 and 190 pounds, originally signed with the New York Jets in 2016 as an undrafted rookie out of Temple. In four seasons in New York, he caught 207 passes for 3,059 yards and 20 touchdowns and established himself as one of the NFL’s best deep threats. He signed a two-year deal with the Panthers in 2020, rejoining former college coach Matt Rhule, and received a two-year extension in August 2021 after recording a career-high 95 receptions and 1,096 yards, along with three touchdowns.

One week after Rhule was fired in October 2022, Anderson was traded to the Cardinals in the aftermath of an argument with a position coach and getting kicked out of a game by then-interim coach Steve Wilks.

An alum of South Plantation High School who grew up in South Florida, Anderson joins a wide receiver room that includes entrenched starters Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle but not much clarity behind them. The Dolphins lost Trent Sherfield to the Buffalo Bills in free agency while signing Braxton Berrios, re-signing River Cracraft and claiming Freddie Swain off waivers this offseason. They join a group that also includes Cedrick Wilson, Erik Ezukanma and Braylon Sanders.
