Don Valley Parkway closed for spring maintenance all weekend

Spring has sprung and, in Toronto, that equates with construction and road closures.

The Don Valley Parkway — roughly 15 kilometres from Highway 401 to the Gardiner Expressway — will be shut down from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday as it gets its annual spring maintenance.

The $1 million annual tuneup will include resurfacing the lanes, repairing guardrails, and performing maintenance on the signs and cameras overheard, said Kyp Perikleous, the city's senior strategic director for transportation services.

If you were planning to drive downtown this weekend, Perikleous recommends leaving the car at home. Especially for those planning to catch the Maple Leafs take on the Washington Capitals on Sunday night.

"This is the lightest weekend, which is why this weekend was chosen," he said. "And it's hard to be able to confirm when the playoff games will be taking place so far in advance."

Motorists should also steer clear of parking on Broadview Avenue this weekend. The city will turn it into a no parking zone during the construction.
