Doughnut sale for Alberta flood victims was a fraud

Edmontonians who bought Krispy Kreme doughnuts last week to help Alberta flood victims were victims of fraud.

Edmonton Police say the people selling doughnuts at a local mall skimmed information from credit and debit cards.

Acting Sgt. Mike Walkom is frustrated that people who were trying to help were ripped off.

“It makes it that much worse, right?” he said.

“A tragedy such as the floods happens. And now you think you're going to help out, help the cause. And now it's somebody taking advantage of a terrible situation.”

Police are concerned that the scam may continue again this weekend.

They released a photo of a person of interest in the case, a fair-skinned woman with blond or light blond hair, who is believed to be between 20 and 40 years old.
