Drayton has new deputy mayor

As of July 1, 2024, Councillor Rick Evans is the Deputy Mayor for the Town. Evans is replacing Councillor Colin Clarke, and Evans' appointment in this position will finish at the end of February, 2025.

The appointment of a deputy mayor is mandated by the Municipal Government Act and is meant to act in place of the mayor should she be unavailable.

Town changes policy on proclamation requests

Town Administration recently reviewed the Proclamation of Special Days & Weeks Policy and have made some updates. CAO Wally Ferris told Council that with the update applicants no longer have to make a request in writing to Council if they don’t want to. Instead, they may make the request by email or by using the fillable form on the Town’s website, www.draytonvalley.ca.

Quote for new command vehicle increases

Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Services Fire Chief Tom Thomson approached Council on June 26 to request an additional $4,000 to go toward the purchase of the new fire command truck that was given approval in the 2024 budget.

Originally the quote for the truck as well as the installation of the emergency lighting and radio was $78,200, divided between the Town and the County. Each municipality was responsible for $39,100.

However, due to supply and demand issues, the costs to purchase the vehicle alone has increased by $8,000.

Councillor Colin Clarke moved that the Town agree to fund the additional $4,000, and the motion was passed.
