Driver accused of DUI, vehicular assault after crashing into motorcyclist in Tumwater

A 21-year-old Chehalis man is accused of driving under the influence and vehicular assault after he crashed into a motorcyclist on Interstate 5 in Tumwater Saturday evening, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The motorcyclist, a 52-year-old Tacoma man, suffered a broken leg and was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. The Chehalis man was not injured.

About 7:30 p.m., both drivers were headed north on I-5 in Tumwater. Troopers say the Chehalis man changed lanes and struck the motorcyclist. Both vehicles wound up blocking the ramp to U.S. Highway 101, according to State Patrol.

The road was blocked for more than three hours after the crash.
