EastEnders confirms surprise proposal in Jay and Honey marathon story

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has confirmed a surprise proposal in Jay and Honey's marathon story.

Pictures from next week's special episode – which will make history by including real-life footage of Emma Barton and Jamie Borthwick running the London marathon – hint at a hugely romantic moment for one couple.

Don't expect Jay or Honey to pop the question to each other – the soap has definitely moved on from any romantic spark between the pair.

After all, Jay has a very busy love life at the moment, with ex-girlfriend Nadine Keller recently returning to Walford to announce she's pregnant with his child.

These new pictures from the special London Marathon episode show that Honey's on-off partner Billy Mitchell is the one planning to pop the question.

Billy hopes to use the marathon as a way to reveal to Honey that he still loves her and wants to take a huge step in their relationship.

Unfortunately, Billy's plans for a grand gesture go awry and he's left scrambling to figure out the best way to propose.

As viewers know, Jay and Honey are running the London Marathon as a tribute to the late Lola Pearce-Brown, who died last year from cancer.

Ahead of this very special storyline, cast member Emma Barton has revealed that she's treating the filming of the Marathon scenes like "a live episode".

"There's three scenes – there is the start line, then Cutty Sark, then Tower Bridge and then the the finish line," she teased. "We've just got to really make sure we and the cameras all work together as well as we possibly can."

These 'live' scenes will air in Monday's (April 22) episode.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
