EastEnders star Colin Salmon addresses Cindy and George affair theories

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders' George Knight star Colin Salmon has addressed rumours of a possible affair between his character and Cindy Beale.

The Knight family joined the soap last year with George moving to Albert Square alongside his daughters Gina and Anna to be with his partner Elaine Peacock.

In a shocking twist of fate, Colin's ex-wife and mother to his daughters Rose Knight also turned up on the cobbles - only viewers of the soap knew her better as Cindy, who had been in witness protection.

George's adoptive parents Eddie and Gloria have also made guest appearances in the soap as part of a shocking storyline that has seen George discover they obtained him from an African family as part of a process known as baby farming.

On top of this blow, George also discovered his father had murdered his biological father, causing him to seek comfort in those closest to him - particularly Cindy.

With the pair growing closer and closer, Colin has revealed how the pair's relationship will develop and whether a reunion is on the cards.

"One of the things that becomes clear is how important George's relationship with Cindy is to him. I think it can get confused with romance, but actually, it's Cindy's knowledge of him, Gloria and Eddie that matters," he revealed.

"George's world suddenly becomes very small, and Cindy becomes very important spiritually. She has the ability to talk him down because she understands him better than anyone does right now."

His world is set to come crashing down when the results of his DNA test reveal there are no matches, and thus no traces of his birth family.

Colin opened up on how the revelation affects his character, continuing: "George is in a desert of knowledge, and he was hoping to find some connections. Suddenly, he's got West African roots, but he doesn't know anything about his heritage.

"I quite like that he's totally oblivious about this and has to look it up. I also like that George knows what he doesn't know and is prepared to find out but not getting any DNA result matches leaves him with a massive hole because he hoped to find something.

"It's crucial because now George knows that his birth father came back for him, and that changes things. Now, he realises that his parents wanted him back, and they were always his people.

"This opens up a whole new avenue of discovery for George, and he's grateful for the opportunity to have a family. What's sad is that he's always had them, but he was manipulated into believing he didn't."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
