Ed Davey calls for ‘heartless’ carer debts to be written off
Sir Ed Davey has joined calls for unpaid carers' debts to be written off after it emerged that some have been told to repay thousands of pounds of benefits after accidentally earning too much money in the past.
According to figures released by The Guardian, 156,000 unpaid carers are repaying tens of thousands of pounds in some cases for often unintentionally exceeding the £151-a-week earnings limit while caring.
"Put that in stark contrast to people who have avoided tax, or the PPE scandal... the government have given up on chasing that," the Liberal Democrat leader told BBC Breakfast on Friday, 26 April.
