Edmonton babysitter charged with distributing child pornography

An Edmonton babysitter has been arrested on charges of possessing, accessing and distributing child pornography.

Jason Michael Campbell, 36, was arrested at his west Edmonton home Nov. 23 by ALERT's Internet Child Exploitation team.

Campbell had been providing babysitting or child-minding services for 16 years. He routinely posted advertisements with the online classified website Kijij, police say.

Campbell's charges stem from a referral from the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre, which was tipped that an Edmonton man was suspected of uploading child exploitation images to a website.

ALERT received the referral Nov. 18 and fast-tracked the investigation after learning the suspect was a babysitter.

Campbell was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 26.
