Emmerdale star Charlotte Bellamy explains gruesome on-set injury

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Charlotte Bellamy has revealed she suffered a gruesome on-set injury "years ago".

Charlotte appeared on Lorraine on Wednesday (July 3) to discuss her character Laurel's shocking collapse in the latest episode when she was asked about a real-life hospital dash.

The actor remembered that she was supposed to be slicing food in a scene but accidentally chopped off the edge of a finger.

"During filming, I was making a bolognese, as you do, with a very blunt knife, and I'm chopping and on the take, I chop the top of my finger off," she recalled.

"At the time, I was pretend-pregnant as Laurel, so I had to get rushed into A&E with the prop man and with my pretend [baby] bump.

"They were so confused, and they were more worried about my baby, but obviously, my baby wasn't real, and nor was my husband."

Lorraine Kelly joked that the hospital dash must have been especially awkward since Charlotte had to explain to medical staff that she wasn't pregnant.

"You have to go, that's not my husband, and the baby isn't real, but I have actually chopped the top of my finger off with a knife while making bolognese for a show... and they go 'ahh ok', it's bonkers, isn't it?" the chat-show host quipped.

Charlotte's on-screen alter-ego Laurel suffered a frightening collapse in Wednesday's episode while she was in the middle of a row with partner Jai Sharma.

This concerning sequence of events will have a huge impact on Laurel and Jai's future as they consider whether or not they can make it as a couple.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
