England star Chloe Kelly admits scoring Euros game-winning goal trumped fiancé's proposal

Lioness star Chloe Kelly has admitted that her game-winning goal in the 2022 Women's Euros against Germany triumphed the moment her fiancé proposed.

The footballer, 26, announced her engagement to Scott Moore in December following a romantic getaway to Finland and the couple plan to wed at the end of July.

The sports star, who met Moore while playing for Everton where he worked as a groundsman, revealed she had always told her other half she wanted their proposal to be a private affair.

But sensing a potential engagement was on the horizon during their trip, Kelly admitted she feared there would be crowds when they went on a husky ride together.

However. she was completely unaware that Scott had booked a private trip - which he then used to propose.

"The woman with the huskies obviously knew," the England forward shared on Jamie Laing and Sophie Haboo's NewlyWeds podcast.

“And she pulled us to the side and was like, 'Let's take some pictures now so the Northern Lights are out... we might not get them when we get to the top'.

“So she's taking pictures, and the snow is up here, so when Scott got on one knee he's sunk right into the snow. It was amazing!”

After she said “yes”, the newly-engaged couple were led to a nearby teepee where a fire, a cheeseboard, and a bottle of prosecco awaited them for a celebratory toast.

Reflecting on the moment, she said: “I couldn't stop smiling. It was just such a happy moment!"

When asked which was a happier moment - Moore’s proposal or when she scored the iconic game-winning goal in the 2022 Women's Euros against Germany - Kelly hilariously admitted it was her Euros goal.

"The wedding's not been yet so I'm going to say the winning goal!" she laughed, as her other half could be heard in the background jokingly saying: "The wedding's off!"

She explained: "I think because the smiles that it put on everyone else's faces, seeing my family in the crowd, scoring the goal at Wembley - that was the hard work I'd put in throughout my career, the sacrifices my family had made to get me to that moment.

"And scoring the goal off the back of my ACL journey that I'd been on, it was more than just a goal. So I'm gonna say that."
