The Suits franchise is continuing with a new spinoff.

Titled Suits L.A., the upcoming series will be set in the same universe as the original legal drama with a different cast. In July 2024, NBCUniversal announced that the show has been picked up for a series order.

The news of the upcoming spinoff came shortly after the original Suits series had a huge resurgence on Netflix. After hitting the streamer in June 2023, the series starring Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle set a new record as the most viewed acquired streaming title nearly four years after its series finale.

The show, which followed the exploits of Adams’ character Mike Ross who manages to talk his way into a job as a lawyer despite having never attended law school, aired from June 2011 to September 2019. Suits previously had another spinoff titled Pearson starring Gina Torres’s character that premiered in July 2019 and ran for 10 episodes before it was canceled.

What is Suits L.A. about?

As the new title suggests, the series will take place in Los Angeles and feature a brand-new set of characters. Per the official logline, the show follows a former federal prosecutor from New York named Ted Black, who “has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles.”

“His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career,” the logline continues. “Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved."

The first teaser for the show debuted in November 2024, showing Amell in his office as the original series' theme song, “Greenback Boogie” by Ima Robot, played.

Though the show includes all-new characters, it will be set in the same universe as the original USA Network show, meaning there is potential for Suits characters to appear. So far, members of the show's cast have expressed their interest in returning, including Adams.

When discussing the upcoming spinoff in January 2024, the former Suits star noted that he and (his costars) would be happy to reprise their roles. “If we got the phone call, if I got the phone call, I'm ready to suit up again,” he told ET. “I love the show, I love the character. And I loved working with all these people."

In November 2024, Gabriel Macht confirmed that he would be reprising his role as Harvey Specter with a video he shared on Instagram that showed him wearing a shirt with "H.S." stitched on the sleeve and his character's name on a label inside of his shoes.

“When an old friend is in need… it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right,” he wrote in his caption.

At the time, Deadline reported that Macht would reprise his role for a three-episode arc.
